Vitamins for the Perfect Weight America Diet

Consuming the right foods is the foundation of overall wellness but you could be missing out on nutrients essential to good health for the following reasons:

Our hunter-gatherer ancestors functioned healthily on a diet of wild plants, foraged fruits, plant roots, mushrooms, nuts, eggs, fish, local game, and honey for dessert. Life on the farm, so to speak, remained this way until the onset of the Industrial Age in the late 1800s and early 1900s, which led to the introduction of manufactured processes that "refined" foods like grains, cereals, and sugar. The fourth and final trend—the one we're living in today—began in the 1950s with the rise of agribusiness, fast-food restaurants, and convenience foods—fast, nutritionally low, highly processed foods.

We need supplemental vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants because our bodies do not produce these nutrients, so they must come from an outside source. The standard American diet (SAD) contains foods that have been stripped of many of their healthy components and are devoid of many vitamins and minerals. Today's conventionally grown food is usually low in antioxidants and can cause free-radical damage that can compromise cellular health. Many overweight people are starved of nutrients because their diets contain mostly "empty" calorie foods.

Have you checked the label of your multivitamin lately? If you see ingredients such as sucrose, cornstarch, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydro-chloride, or sodium metasilicate listed, your multivitamin is produced from isolated and synthetic materials. When you look on the packaging and see the letters dl in front of an ingredient—like "dl-alpha tocopheryl," for example—your multivitamin is using a synthetic version of vitamin E. Again, not all vitamin E is created equal.Synthetic or isolated multivitamins are never going to be as good or potent as the ones produced from natural sources; studies show that synthetically made vitamins are 50 percent less biologically active than vitamins made from natural sources. So when you introduce nutritional supplements produced from whole foods and other natural sources into your body, you'll double the nutrients available to the body.
